Effect of Novel Short Synthetic Antibacterial Peptide Against Streptococcus
The aim was to explore the effect of a new synthetic antimicrobial peptide GK12 on early periodontal colonizing bacteria and its mechanism. The physical and chemical properties of GK12 were pre-dicted by software. The antibacterial experiment was conducted to detect the inhibitory effect on the growth ability of streptococcus oralis, streptococcus sanguinis, streptococcus gordonii. The antimicrobial mechanism of GK12 was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Finally, the biocompatibility of GK12 was evaluated. The results showed that GK12 inhibited the growth ability of the three bacteria in both the floating state and the biofilm state.Under electron microscope, the integrity of bacterial cell membrane was damaged and the contents were leaked.Cell count showed no obvious cytotox-icity of GK12.In summary,GK12 has good biocompatibility and can inhibit the formation of plaque bio-film by destroying the cell membrane of early periodontal colonizing bacteria.
