The Philosophy of Presence and Absence:A Study on the Antecedent Configuration and Effect of the Dual Inno-vation of the Champion Enterprise of Specialized Innovation under the Digital Background
In the complex and ever-changing business environment,dual innovation plays a crucial role in the survival,development,and enhancement of core competitiveness for enterprises.However,its formation involves a complex antecedent mechanism.For the champion enterprise of specialized innovation,which is the leader among small and medium-sized enterprises,the promotion of dual innovation and improvement of its performance in such a dynamic context have become significant challenges for both academia and industry.Champion enterprises have emerged as the cornerstone of high-quality development in the manufacturing industry.With the deepening digitalization process,dual innovation-which combines exploratory innovation and utilization innovation-will serve as a new driving force and engine for continuously enhancing independent innovation capabilities among champion enterprises.Current-ly,there is limited research on the formation mechanism and impact of this complex dual innovation within specialized and unique champion enterprises under the backdrop of digitalization.Drawing upon dynamic capability theory,this paper constructs an antecedent configuration model along with its effects on dual in-novation within champion enterprises operating in a digitalized environment.By employing fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Anal-ysis(fsQCA)method for data analysis while integrating western optimal differentiation theory with eastern philosophy regarding existence and absence,this study aims to provide more comprehensive explanations that are universally applicable.These findings not only offer valuable guidance for promoting dual innovation and sustainable independent innovative abilities among champion enterprises but also contribute to fostering creative transformation and innovative development rooted in Chinese excellent traditional culture.Among them,the optimal differentiation theory corresponds to the set of high and non-high of fsQCA outcome variables,and the philosophy of presence and absence corresponds to the condition of fsQCA antecedent configuration,which respectively cor-respond to the fsQCA method from the macro and micro perspectives.In summary,the theory of optimal differentiation can explain the problem of"seeking common ground"and"reserving differences"of innovation strategies,and the philosophy of existence and absence can explain the problem of the existence and absence of each antecedent condition of innovation.Based on the theory of optimal differentiation and the philosophy of presence and absence,this paper compares the research results and finds the following management implications.First,the innovation practice of enterprises should pay attention to the matching of"presence"and"absence".The promotion effect of a single capability on the performance of an enterprise's dual innovation is rela-tively limited,and it is not possible to simply add up the promotion effect of several single conditions on the result,but should have a holistic perspective and a complex system perspective,and achieve a balance state by the overall cooperation of weak and strong.Sec-ond,the innovation practice of enterprises should adapt to the conditions,pay attention to the different conditions to choose their own"optimal"innovation path.Compared with the digital grasping ability of enterprises,digital perception ability and digital transforma-tion ability play a more significant role in promoting the balance of dual innovation.In the configuration that produces non-high dual innovation performance,digital grasping ability is particularly prominent.Third,for the government,the availability of government subsidies significantly affects the optimal innovation path of enterprises.Fourth,enterprises should have the idea of optimal differen-tiation and face the positive role of non-high dual innovation performance.This paper further combines the western theory of optimal differentiation and the eastern philosophy of presence and absence to further abstract and refine the research conclusions,providing practical and theoretical guidance for the high-quality development of China's specialized new manufacturing enterprises.
