Local Quality,Human Capital Accumulation and Urban Economic Growth
Human capital is a key factor in promoting economic growth and the core driving force for the high-quality development of China's economy.Increasing the Human capital accumulation of cities by improving local quality is crucial to promoting urban economic growth.Based on the theory of new space economics,this paper uses panel data of 284 cities nationwide from 2010 to 2019 to analyze the role and internal mechanism of local quality in promoting urban economic growth from the perspective of human capital demand.The study found that local quality has a significant promoting effect on the growth of urban economy and the results are still valid after using system GMM and instrumental variables to alleviate endogeneity and multiple robustness tests.The mechanism analysis shows that lo-cal quality can attract labor inflow,especially the inflow of high-skilled labor,improve the concentration level of local innovative talents,and promote the accumulation of urban hu-man capital.The heterogeneity analysis shows that,in terms of urban features,the effect of local quality on the economic growth of big cities or central cities is more significant.In terms of spatial features,the effect of local quality on the economic growth of western cit-ies and national urban agglomerations is more significant.This paper explains the problem of urban economic growth from the perspective of local quality,and provides empirical enlightenment for exploring a new path of high-quality urban development in China.
