Does Digital Infrastructure Improve the Quality of Chinese Enterprises'Export Products?
As the hardware foundation for the high-quality development of the digital economy, the role of digital infrastructure in promoting economic development has been increas-ingly widely demonstrated. The increasingly challenging international situation has placed unpre-cedentedly high demands on the quality of exported products. Can the development of digital infrastructure effectively promote the improvement of the quality of Chinese enterprises'export products? This paper first conducts a comprehensive measurement of the development level of urban digital infrastructure from two dimensions:information infrastructure and converged in-frastructure,comprehensively and accurately portraying the development and converged applica-tion of"new-generation information technology"within digital infrastructure.Subsequently, based on matched data from the China Customs Data and the Chinese Industrial Enterprise Data-base,systematically examines the impact and mechanism of digital infrastructure development on the quality of enterprise-exported products at the micro-enterprise level.Empirical results show that the development of digital infrastructure significantly promotes the improvement of the quality of enterprise-exported products, and this conclusion remain robust in a series of checks and after addressing endogeneity problem.Further analysis shed light on the mechanism of facili-tating factor circulation and reducing transaction costs.Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the quality enhancing effect is more significant in non-state-owned enterprises, those with lower financing constraints, and those located in peripheral cities. In the rapid development of the digi-tal economy, our work provides supports to the promotion of digital economic development, planning of digital infrastructure construction,high-quality development of foreign trade and so on.
