Market-oriented Education,Public Education Expenditure and Education Level in Compulsory Education Stage:An Analysis Based on the Inter-generational Perspective
The equalization of development opportunities is an important point to alleviate the unbalanced development of education. This paper constructs an analytical framework of the influence of public education expenditure and parents'income on children's education level from two aspects of direct effect and indirect effect, and further discusses the influ-ence of market-oriented education on the direct effect and indirect effect of public education expenditure. This paper uses China Family Panel Studies(CFPS),taking the compulsory education period as an example,to carry out empirical verification. It is found that the in-fluence of public education expenditure on children's education level includes direct and indirect mechanisms:on the one hand,it can directly promote the improvement of chil-dren's education level(direct effect); On the other hand,it helps to weaken the correlation between the income of the parents and the education level of the children(indirect effect). The study also found that marketed education has a moderating effect, which weakens the direct and indirect effects of public education expenditure. This paper suggests that we should make full use of the role of public education expenditure in promoting equal educa-tional opportunities, increase the input of public education resources to low-income fami-lies,standardize market-oriented education, and improve the development ability of low-income families.
