Non-equilibrium Effects of High-Speed Railway on the Development of Urban Agglomerations——Base on the Sample Study of Guangdong Province
Based on the theoretical model of"polycentric-peripheral"urban agglomeration and the data of 21 cities in Guangdong Province from 2005 to 2019,this paper investigates the mechanism and effect of high-speed railway establishment on the development of urban agglomeration. The research shows that:The establishment of high-speed rail significantly promotes the overall economic development of urban agglomerations, and it presents unbalanced effects on different areas within agglomerations.Mechanism test shows that the operation of high-speed rail can help reallocation of resources in urban agglomeration through the transfer of enterprises and population. The effects of high-speed rail on the economic development of urban agglomerations is affected by the completion time."Agglomeration effect"in central cities usually takes shape in the second year after the completion of high-speed railway, which can boost the economic development, and then"radiation effect"gradually presents from the third year.Based on the above conclusions, this paper puts forward the following policy suggestions:it is necessary to accelerate the construction of high-speed railway in Guangdong province to promote the interconnection among urban agglomerations;High-speed railway construction plan should be made in accordance with local conditions to prevent excessive loss of resources in peripheral cities; At the same time, peripheral cities should be prepared to undertake and make full use of the"radiation effect"of central cities.
