Digital Technology Innovation and Green Total Factor Productivity:Empirical Evidence from the Yellow River Basin
Based on the panel data of prefecture-level cities in the Yellow River Basin from 2011 to 2020,after addressing endogeneity issues, this paper empirically investigates the effect of digital technology innovation on green total factor productivity in the Yellow River Basin by using empirical analysis methods such as two-way fixed effect model and panel Ⅳ estimators. The research shows that digital technology innovation can significantly pro-mote the green total factor productivity in the Yellow River Basin, and the conclusion remains robust after control-ling for exogenous policy shocks, removing part of the sample, and winsorizing the outliers.Heterogeneity analysis further shows that digital technology innovation has a more significant promoting effect on green total factor produc-tivity in non-resource-based cities, central cities and middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River.Further-more,mechanism analysis finds that green technology innovation, advancement of industrial structure, and indus-trial agglomeration and synergies are three major pathways through which digital technology affects green total factor productivity in the Yellow River Basin Therefore,it is necessary to increase investment in digital technology innova-tion,enhance urban digital technology absorption and transformation abilities, and create favorable conditions for fully releasing the environmental effects of digital technology.
