Research on Trade Structure Characteristics and Trade Potential of Agricultural Products between China and ASEAN
The upgrade of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and the implementation of RCEP have provided new impetus for agricultural product trade between China and ASEAN.Based on the results measured by four inter-national competitiveness indices-RCA,TCI,TSC,and HM,this paper analyzes the trade characteristics of agri-cultural products between China and ASEAN.Furthermore,it introduces the stochastic frontier gravity model to measure and analyze the bilateral trade efficiency, trade potential, and trade expansion space of agricultural prod-ucts between China and ASEAN,and then proposes policy recommendations for deepening cooperation. The re-search results show that China's agricultural product trade scale with ASEAN continues to rise, but the trade struc-ture,concentrated in plant products, presents an unbalanced development trend, leading to an expanding trade def-icit.China's agricultural products have relatively weak comparative advantages, with comparative advantages only in food, beverages, alcohol and vinegar, tobacco and its products, and exported agricultural products to ASEAN lack complementarity.China and ASEAN have different specialized agricultural products, with Laos,Cambodia, and Myanmar highly dependent on China's consumer market.ASEAN's trade efficiency shows an upward trend, with differences in export efficiency among member countries.Singapore and Malaysia have the highest trade efficiency values and more favorable agricultural product trade environments.Thailand,Indonesia, and Vietnam have greater trade potential values but relatively lower trade efficiency, indicating certain barriers in conducting agricultural product trade with China.
