Research progress on the effects of salt stress on growth, development, and nutritional quality of alfalfa
The shortage of arable land resources and high-quality forage materials in China has led to the de-velopment of forage industry on saline-alkali land, which not only conforms to the national strategy for forage hus-bandry,but also can change the situation of lack of high-quality forage.Salt stress is one of the important abiotic stresses that seriously affects the healthy growth and development of plants.Understanding the effects of salt stress on the growth, yield, and nutrient content of alfalfa is beneficial for the development and utilization of sa-line-alkali land resources, and can alleviate the increasing pressure on food production. This paper summarized the physiological changes of alfalfa seed germination, stomatal conductance, and germination status under salt stress, explored the regulatory effects of salt stress on alfalfa yield, carbohydrate, and protein content, and was looking forward to future research.
