The Effects of Nitrogen Application and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Inoculation on the Growth Character of the Typical Shrub Species Vitex negundo in Southern Taihang Mountains
This study aims to dissect the synergistic effects of nitrogen application and inocula-tion with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)on the growth parameters of Vitex negundo,a repre-sentative shrub species in the Taihang Mountains region. We methodically analyzed the individual and combined impacts of nitrogen supplementation and AMF inoculation on various aspects of plant growth. Results showed that:1)Nitrogen application alone did not significantly alter the height, while AMF inoculation and the combined treatment significantly increased the plant height by 25%and 28%respectively;2)The application of nitrogen and inoculation with AMF significantly pro-moted the above and below-ground biomass accumulation.Furthermore, this treatment notably resulted in a lower root-to-shoot ratio compared to the other treatments.3)All these three treat-ments significantly increased the net photosynthetic rate and fluorescence parameters of the leaves, and the AN treatment greatly impacted the leaf area and chlorophyllin content of V.negundo.4)All treatments significantly augmented the total root length, surface area, and root volume, while the A and AN treatments resulted in a significant reduction in root diameter. Our study indicates that nitrogen application and AMF inoculation significantly enhanced above-ground growth, alter root morphology, and increase the biomass of V.negundo.The symbiosis significantly improves the indi-vidual growth, influence root architecture, and enhance photosynthesis of V.negundo.
