Analysis and Evaluation of Ecological Environment Changes in Wulagai Reservoir
Evaluating the environmental conditions of water storage projects offers a scientific basis for eco-environmental protection and regional socio-economic development. This study ana-lyzed the Wulagai Reservoir in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as an example to analyze the spatiotemporal changes in multiple ecological and environmental factors such as land use, vegetation co verage, water network density, and soil erosion in the study area from 1998 to 2022.Using ecologi-cal environment status index method,we evaluate environmental conditions. The results showed that over the past 25 years, the area of cultivated land in the Wulagai Reservoir decreased, while the area of woodland and grassland increased significantly. The density of the water network showed fluctuating growth, and soil erosion intensified. The ecological environment status index of Wulagai Reservoir remained above 80 for many years, indicating excellent ecological conditions. After 2018,the ecological environment status index rose to around 90,and the ecological status showing contin-uous improvement despite fluctuations. The findings provide decision-making support for the con-struction and management of water storage projects, exemplified by the Wulagai Reservoir, and promote the rational utilization of regional water resource and the sustainable development of the ecological environment.
