Determination of turpentine in environmental air and indoor air by solid adsorption-ther-mal desorption/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry
Objective:An analytical method for the determination of turpentine in both ambient and indoor air by solid adsorption-thermal desorption/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)was developed. Methods:In this work, the influence of desorption temperature, resolution time, desorption flow rate, focusing temperature and cold trap desorption time on the analytical results was investigated and the optimal optimization conditions were set as ad-sorbent tube desorption temperature of 280℃,resolution of 3 min, desorption flow rate of 30 mL/min,cold trap desorp-tion temperature of 300℃,cold trap focusing temperature of-10℃ and cold trap desorption time of 3 min. Results:The calibration curves demonstrated a linear relationship within the range of 5~100 ng,and the limits of detection(LOD)were 0.5µg/m3.The RSDs between laboratories were lower than 5%,and the recoveries of ambient air spiked samples varied from 86.8%to 107%,with an inter-laboratory spiked recoveries RSD of 7.60%.The spiked recoveries of air samples ranged from 74.5%to 109%,with an inter-laboratory relative deviation of spiked recoveries of 11.2%.Conclusion:The method is efficient and simple,as it does not require organic solvents, and is suitable for quickly mea-suring and analyzing turpentine in both indoor and outdoor air.It has high reproducibility, accuracy, and precision.
