The ban on fireworks is of great significance for the prevention and control of air pollution, the elimina-tion of severe pollution weather, and the sustained improvement of environmental air quality. This study utilizes the automatic monitoring data of atmospheric particulate matter and LiDAR scanning from Baotou City during the Spring Festival period from 2020 to 2023.By analyzing the impact of fireworks on changes in air quality,it confirms the effec-tiveness of strict fireworks bans in improving air quality during the Spring Festival in Baotou. The results show that af-ter the citywide ban on fireworks and firecrackers was implemented in August 2020,the concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 from New Year's Eve to the first day of the lunar month in 2022 saw the largest decrease compared to the same period in 2020,with PM2.5 decreasing by 94.6%and PM10 by 93.6%.Thus,it is evident that strict control measures for fireworks and firecrackers play a significant role in improving air quality during the Spring Festival, and are crucial for eliminating severe pollution weather and enhancing air quality.
