Current Status and Causes of Degradation of the Three-North Shelter Forest:A Case Study of Urad Middle Banner
The Three-North region is a typical arid and semi-arid area in China. After decades of shelter forest construction,it has entered a period of natural succession and renewal of trees, and the issue of tree degradation in the Three-North region is becoming increasingly prominent. To accurately and truly reflect the current status and causes of the degradation of the Three-North shelter forest system, this study takes Urad Middle Banner as the research object.Through the study and analysis of the current status and degradation of its Three-North project construction, the conclusion is drawn:the degree of degradation of the Three-North shelter forest in Urad Middle Banner is mainly severe, mainly due to disasters, especially drought;the degraded arbor forests in Urad Middle Banner are mainly poplar trees. After 20 years of project construction, the poplar trees have entered their natural maturity period.According to their growth laws, after entering the maturity period, their physiological functions decline, the storage volume per unit area decreases, the protective efficiency is reduced, and the degradation belongs to the process of natural succession.
