Impact of Salt Stress on Seed Germination Characteristics of Five Clover Genotypes
To explore the effects of different salt concentrations on the germination of seeds and seedling growth of Trifolium species and to select varieties with strong salt tolerance for the reclamation of saline-alkali land, this study used five genotypes of clover plants, including Mengnong No.1 Red Clover,Dolly Red Clover,Haifa White Clover,New White Clover Line, and Wildfire Ball,as test materials.Salt stress was simulated with different concentrations of NaCl solution, and six relative indices including germination rate, germination potential, germination index, vitality index, radicle length, and root length were analyzed and compared. The results showed that as the concentration of NaCl increased, the inhibitory effect of salt stress on seed germination and seedling growth significantly intensified, with all indices of the test materials showing a downward trend.Under the same concentration treatment, there were differences in salt tolerance among different varieties.A comprehensive comparison revealed that Mengnong No.1 Red Clover had better salt tolerance indices under various salt stress concentrations, showing stronger salt resistance. The study aims to provide excellent plant materials for the improvement of saline-alkali land, effectively improve the utilization efficiency of saline-alkali land, promote the sustainable development of agricultural production, and facilitate the increase of production and income in agriculture and animal husbandry.
