Effect of Drought Stress on the Growth,Physiological and Biochemical Characteristies of Ulmus lamellosa seedlings
Using one-year-old Ulmus lamellosa seedlings as the research object,a pot cultivation method was used to control water content, and four treatment levels of soil moisture content were set at 80%(control),60%(mild drought stress),40%(moderate drought stress),and 20%(severe drought stress)of the field capacity,to study the effects of drought stress on the growth and physiological and biochemical characteristics of Ulmus lamellosa seed-lings.The results showed that with the increase in drought stress intensity, the plant height and underground biomass of the seedlings gradually decreased, while the aboveground biomass, total biomass, catalase(CAT)activity, and proline(Pro)content showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing.Superoxide dismutase(SOD)and per-oxidase(POD)first decreased and then increased, and then decreased again. The soluble protein content and malo-ndialdehyde(MDA)content showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing.Under mild drought stress, the aboveground biomass and total biomass of seedlings were the highest. There was a certain correlation between the growth indicators and between growth and physiological indicators of seedlings. The study showed that under differ-ent drought stress conditions, the growth of Ulmus lamellosa seedlings was inhibited to a certain extent, but they could resist drought stress by regulating their own physiological metabolism, and mild drought stress was a suitable soil moisture condition for the growth of Ulmus lamellosa seedlings.
