Reexamination on the Enlistment of Duoyan Branch of Lijiazhuang
"Duoyan Branch of Lijiazhuang"was a tribe attached to Duoyan Army in the 16th century,leading a nomadic life outside Xuanfu with a mixed population of Mongolian and Han.The branch was divided into two tribes.One is"Lijiazhuang headquarter"with a population of more than 1 470 people;The other is"Yongning border tribe",also known as Che'erying,with a population of about 400 people,under the command of the chief of Lijiazhuang.In the 31st year of Jiajing(1552),they were conquered by Tumed Wanhu and then enlisted as mercenaries by the Ming Dynasty in the 32nd year of Jiajing(1553).In the 34th year of Jiajing(1555),the two tribes broke with the Ming Dynasty and surrendered to Tumed Wanhu again.Huang Taiji accepted them and supported some of the leaders doing supervision work.In the 40th year of Jiajing(1561),Shidaguaner purged the supervision leaders and led Lijiazhuang headquarter to surrender to the Ming Dynasty,after which Lijiazhuang headquarter was also known as Shiying.
