On the Phenomenon of"Substitution"in Field Poetics
In writing Field Poetics,Qian Chengzhi incorporated his personal experience into the interpretation of The Book of Songs by substituting the characters in the poem.Qian Chengzhi worked on the poems mainly written during"the decline of Western Zhou Dynasty"for two reasons.First,the historical background of these poems is similar to the one under which Qian Chengzhi live.Second,the"complaining"feature of these poems is in line with Qian Chengzhi's expression need to admonish people with experience.Qian Chengzhi interpreted The Book of Songs through"substitution",which conveys his advice and warning to the Confucian who have the ambition to govern the world.Qian Chengzhi with his Field Poetics is not to serve the Qing Dynasty,but to help the world and benefit the people.
