Overview on the Cultural Relics and Archaeology Work of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2023
In 2023,the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology undertook 11 proactive excavation projects and cooperated with more than 20 basic construction and rescue archaeological excavation projects.Relying on the Archaeological China Project,the institute committed to exploring the origin of civilization in the Western Liao River Basin and the formation mechanism of social civilization in the Hetao area.The focus of the Western Liao River Basin is on several important time periods,including the early Xinglongwa Culture,Hongshan Culture,and the Lower Level of Xiajiadian Culture,with the aim of continuously exploring the development path of civilization in the Western Liao River Basin.The Hetao area,centered around the Stone City of the Longshan period,aims to expand the exploration and excavation of related sites,in order to explain the northern model in the early formation process of China.The tombs of different groups of people during the Warring States and Han Dynasties,the exploration and excavation of the city sites in Liaoshangjing and Wu'anzhou,and the archaeological excavation of the Alzhai Grottoes have witnessed the ethnic integration of different periods from an archaeological perspective.In addition,the continuous deepening of concepts such as technological archaeology,laboratory archaeology,and public archaeology have greatly promoted the development of Inner Mongolia's archaeology.
