A Brief Report on the Excavation of Late Bronze Age Cemetery in Shuiquan,Aohan Banner
The Shuiquan cemetery is located in the west of Shuiquan Village,Sijiazi Town,Aohan Banner,Chifeng City.In 1995,the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Department of Archaeology,Jilin University jointly carried out a rescue excavation on the Shuiquan cemetery.The 1993 Cultural and Museum College Class of the Department of Archaeology,Jilin University participated in the excavation with the aim of field archaeological internships.A total of 110 rectangular soil pits and vertical cave tombs were cleared,and more than 1OO artifacts of various types such as pottery,copper,stone,bones,and iron were unearthed,which age dating back to the late Spring and Autumn period to the mid Warring States period.Based on the factors such as the shape of the double-eared jar with folded lips and burial customs,the tombs in Shuiquan North District are more like the relics left by the fusion of people from the Great Wall in the north and the Linghe River Basin,and the tombs in Shuiquan South District also reflect a closer connection with the Linghe culture.
