A Brief Report on the Archaeological Excavation of Tang Dynasty Tombs in Huangmuchang Village,Yongshun Town,Tongzhou District,Beijing City
From 2012 to 2013,the Beijing Institute of Archaeology(formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Cultural Relics)conducted archaeological excavations on the No.5 project in the core area of the canal in Huangmuchang Village,Yongshun Town,Tongzhou District,Beijing.Four Tang Dynasty tombs were unearthed during this excavation,which suffered serious damage.However,the basic shape of the tombs was largely preserved.Based on the characteristics of the square shaped tomb chamber and the imitation wooden structure of the inside of M76,it can be roughly determined that the construction age of these four tombs belongs to the middle and late Tang Dynasty.During the Tang Dynasty,Youzhou was the forefront of the court's management of Liaodong.The Yongji Canal,excavated during the reign of Emperor Yang of Sui,was an important transportation channel for transporting military supplies and troops for governing the Liaodong region.These four tombs were located near the Yongji Canal,which providing important information for studying the material life and social development of the people in Tongzhou during the Tang Dynasty.
