Morphological and Functional Analysis of Copper Arrowhead Iron Stem as Crossbow Arrows in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty
The copper arrowhead iron stem appeared in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty is a variant of bronze arrowhead,which is a copper-iron composite product applied in warfare with the development of iron smelting technology.This"transitional product"should have replaced the bronze arrowhead by virtue of its performance,and opened the prelude of iron arrowhead iteration.However,the copper arrowhead iron stem were fleeting,only partially popular in the Warring States period and almost disappeared in the Qin and Han Dynasties,and it was not until the middle of the Western Han Dynasty that iron arrowheads began to replace bronze arrowheads.The application of iron products is usually limited by technical and cost factors.As a copper-iron composite product,copper arrowhead iron stem has a certain transitional significance,but the appearance of copper arrowhead iron stem is a local adaptive adjustment with the progress of launch unit,not an inevitable product of simple technological innovation of iron products.
