Preliminary Scientific Analysis of Bronze Artifacts Unearthed from Liao Dynasty Tombs in Liaoning Region
Through metallographic observation and composition analysis of 33 bronze objects discovered in different Liao Dynasty tombs in Liaoning region,it is shown that they are made of various copper alloys including bronze(14),red copper(9),and brass(10),and the alloy types are relatively complex.Red bronze ware is made using hot forging technology, while bronze ware is mostly made using casting technology(only one piece is forged).Brass ware reflects the coexistence of forging(9)and casting(1)processes,and there is a certain correspondence between material and function, providing important scientific basis for comprehensively revealing the development of copper use system and copper smelting technology in the Liao Dynasty.
