Clinical Observation of Abdominal Acupuncture Treatment in Patients with Prediabetes and Concomitant Overweight/Obesity
Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of abdominal acupuncture treatment in patients with prediabetes and concomitant over-weight/obesity.Methods:A total of 106 patients with prediabetes and concomitant overweight/obesity were randomly divided into an ab-dominal acupuncture group and a control group, with 53 patients in each group. Both groups received routine treatment, while the abdom-inal acupuncture group received additional abdominal acupuncture treatment for a duration of 4 weeks.Changes in weight, waist circum-ference,BMI,fasting blood glucose, insulin, blood lipids, and insulin resistance were compared between the two groups before and after treatment.Adverse reactions were also recorded. Results:After treatment, the abdominal acupuncture group showed significant reductions in waist circumference, weight,BMI,fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose, fasting insulin, insulin resistance index,to-tal cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein(P<0.05),and an increase in high-density lipoprotein. In the control group, weight, fasting blood glucose, and triglycerides increased significantly after treatment(P<0.05).After treatment, the abdominal acupunc-ture group had lower waist circumference, weight,BMI,fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose, fasting insulin, insulin resistance index, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein compared to the control group, and higher levels of high-den-sity lipoprotein. Conclusion:Abdominal acupuncture treatment in patients with prediabetes and concomitant overweight/obesity can lead to weight reduction, lower blood glucose and blood lipid levels, and improvement in insulin resistance, with no significant adverse reactions. It is worth promoting the application of abdominal acupuncture in clinical practice.
