Zhu Xi's Concept of Justice and Profit:Centered on the Interpretation of the First Chapter of Mencius
The distinction between justice and profit is one of the core issues of Confucian traditional philosophy, through the detailed interpretation of the first chapter of Mencius,Zhu Xi expressed his own views. In a nutshell, there are two aspects to his argument:the pursuit of profit will lead to harm, the pursuit of justice will get benefits. And if you expand the argument, justice is the inherent nature of human beings under the laws of heaven, profit is the concrete realization of the natural law of all things. The"heart of righteousness"that comes from man's deep understanding of the laws of heaven, those limited to personal desires are called"heart of profit".Following the"righteous heart"to do nothing disadvantageous, following the"profit heart"will lead to mischief.
