The Characteristics and Spillover Effects of Family Incivility Suffered by Hospitality Employees
As a chronic source of interpersonal stress from family,the manifestation characteristics and spillover effects of family inci-vility have not been fully discussed.Based on in-depth interviews with hospitality employees,this study summarizes the characteristics and spillover effects of family incivility by applying grounded theory.We found that:hotel employees'experience of family incivility is characterized by economic pressure,external environmental stress,professional denial,comparative behaviors,emotional oppression,verbal ridicule,and family isolation,encompassing eight major types.These family incivilities not only heighten the psychological pressure on the employees but also indirectly impact their work status.In such circumstances,employees adopt three coping strategies-positive coping,negative coping,and passive coping-to confront the effects of family incivility on their individual work.The research results expand the research context and scope of family incivility,clarify the internal transmission process of the spillover effect of family incivility,and pro-mote the study of family-work interaction to some extent.
