Analysis and simulation testing of cracks in locomotive axle box body
A comprehensive analysis and testing have been conducted on the cracks in the axle box body of a high-power AC drive freight electric locomotive. The results showed that the main reasons for the fracture in the axle box body are welding repair or casting defects in the stress concentration area of the cast steel axle box body. The cracks originated from surface defects, and during the operation of the locomotive, they expanded from the outside to the inside due to the action of alternating loads, forming macroscopic cracks.Through actual line stress testing and simulation analysis,it is shown that the fatigue life of the axle box body meets the requirements, but the stress in the crack source area is relatively high.It is recommended to pay special attention to the monitoring of the manufacturing quality of castings to avoid cracking faults.
