Study on variations of runoff and sediment load in the Upper Yangtze River and main Influence factors
Human activities in the basin of the Upper Yangtze River result variations of runoff and sediment load.In order to understand the relationship between variations among water, sediment and human activities, variations of water and sediment during the period from 1956 to 2014 in the main tributaries and the trunk channel of the upper Yangtze River were investigated with the cumulative curve analysis method, the MannKendall test method, and clustering analysis method.Variations in human activities were also analyzed in this paper. It is pointed that there is no obvious changing trend for annual runoff in the Upper Yangtze River.Except the Jinsha River before 2013,annual sediment load of the other tributaries and the trunk stations significantly reduces. There are some changes for the proportional relationship between water and sediment for the Upper Yangtze River with that the income sediment coefficient decreases gradually, which is beneficial to river erosion with the larger sediment transport potentiality. The impacts of human activities such as soil and water conservation, sediment trapping by reservoirs, sand mining in river, and over construction on water and sediment changes of the rivers are analyzed according to the characteristics of water and sediment variations. The different human activity plays a different role in the changes of river runoff and sediment. It is obvious for trapping sediment by reservoirs.
