Comparative analysis of vertical bed grain sorting modes in sediment transport modelling
The vertical sorting process of non-uniform sediment in riverbeds significantly affects the sediment distribution on the riverbed surface and the dynamics of erosion and deposition.Presently, there is a deficiency in comprehensive computational methods for continuous vertical grain sorting, and a limited number of comparative analyses between continuous and discrete layer models. This paper undertakes a comparative analysis of the Hirano-Ribberink Vertical Grain Sorting Model(HR-VSM)and the Continuous Vertical Grain Sorting Model(C-VSM)within TELEMAC,focusing on their effects on sediment transport.C-VSM uses the polyline method to represent the vertical bed sediment distribution and stores data of vertical grain sorting and riverbed evolution separately, improving the accuracy of vertical grain sorting calculation and avoiding the vertical mixing problem of sediment between the active layer and the lower layer.Therefore,C-VSM provides a more precise simulation of evolution and sediment distribution on the riverbed surface than HR-VSM.The results can provide reference for the development of vertical grain sorting models.
