Formulas for suspended sediment concentration profile and sediment carrying capacity under the influence of emergent vegetation
Considering the balance between turbulence generation and dissipation in non-sunmerged vegetation canopies,an expression for the eddy viscosity coefficient with the influence of stem wake flow is established.Substituting this into the vertical suspended sediment diffusion equation, the formula for calculating the distribution of suspended sediment concentration affected by emergent vegetation is derived.By integrating the suspended sediment concentration distribution formula vertically and then correcting the near-bed suspended sediment concentration,a formula for sediment carrying capacity based on diffusion theory is further derived.Assuming the suspension energy of sediment is the sum of bed shear stress work and vegetation drag force work,a formula for the sediment carrying capacity based on energy theory is also derived. The derived formulas are validated using data from flume experiments, and the results show a good agreement between calculated values and measured data. These formulas are suitable for calculating the sediment concentration profile and carrying capacity in the presence of emergent vegetation.
