Effects of wind direction on the sand protection performance of sand retaining dykes
In order to understand the influence of wind direction on the sand protection performance of sand retaining dykes, the distributions of wind speed, and airflow streamline, and the sand accumulation characteristics around the sand retaining dyke under different wind angles(the angle between the wind direction and the direction of the sand retaining dyke)has been studied by numerical simulation. The results show that:the effective protection area after the sand barrier dike decreases with the decreasing of wind angle, and the deceleration is smaller when the wind angle is of 40°~90°,the decreasing rate is larger when the wind angle is of 10°~40°.There is no vortex flow on the leeward side of the dike at the wind angle of 10°.The size of the vortex flow on the leeward side of the dike increases with the increase of the wind angle,it increases significantly with the increase of the wind angle from 20° to 50°,and it increases slowly with the increase of wind angle from 50° to 90°.The sand accumulation around the sand barrier dyke or the sand prevention performance of the dyke is positively correlated with the wind angle, with the lower sensitivity of sand accumulation to the wind direction angle at 40°~90°,and higher at 10°~40°.To achieve the efficient sand control performance, the angle of no less than 40° between the local dominant wind direction and the sand barrier dike is suggested.
