There has been a disagreement over whether the expression"Weibei"meaning north of the Wei River in DU Fu's poem Thinking of LI Bai on a Spring Day refers to Chang'an city or Xianyang city. This paper has confirmed that it should be"Chang'an"by conducting textual research into the background of the poem, which infers that the poem was written in spring of the sixth year of Tianbao(the reign title of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang dynasty,747 AD),closing to DU Fu's attendance in the state examination in Chang'an.The gist and the poetry of DU Fu's poem Community Day(Ⅱ)have also offered indirect evidence for this conclusion.Refering to Chang'an as"Weibei"is the writing habit of people in the Tang Dynasty, which is related to the organizational system of capital in Guangzhong Plain during the Qin and Han dynasties.Clarifying the fact that"Weibei"is an expression for Chang'an city helps us analyze the spatial cognition of people in the Tang dynasty who equated"Weibei"with Chang'an.
