Seasons often contain strong humanistic attributes in the narrative of novels.The description of seasons in San Yan(A Ming dynasty collection of short stories by Feng Menglong)is usually combined with narrative scenes and emotional expression.These combinations not only reflect the ancient Chinese concepts of natural aesthetics and the harmony between man and nature,but they are also in line with the theory of traditional Chinese medicine that there is a correspondence between human emotions and seasonal characteristics,revealing the common thinking,cognition and aesthetic psychology of the ancient Chinese people.Moreover,these combinations also help to promote the development of the stories,in which Feng Menglong presented his aesthetic sentiment and expressed his philosophy,making San Yan an irreplaceable monument to ancient short stories in the vernacular Chinese.
