Research on the effect of alkaline treatment on the breathability and hand feel improvement of direct spinning superfiber leather
Direct spinning microfiber leather is a new generation of artificial synthetic leather made from direct spinning ultra-fine and ultra-short polyester fiber non-woven fabric as the base fabric, containing a water-based polyurethane coating, and processed through a series of complex procedures. This study addresses the issues of poor breathability and tactile sensation in direct spinning microfiber leather.Different concentrations of alkaline solution were used to etch the polyester fibers, and the effects of alkaline solution mass fraction and different alkaline treatment processes on the breathability and tactile sensation of direct spinning microfiber leather were investigated. The mechanical properties, breathability, relative tactile value, softness, smoothness, and drape of alkali-treated direct spinning microfiber leather were analyzed using a universal strength machine, breathability tester, and other instruments. The results show that alkaline treatment improves the breathability and hand feel of direct spinning microfiber leather.Alkali treatment of the base cloth followed by aqueous polyurethane impregnation better retains the mechanical properties of direct-spun microfiber leather compared to impregnation with polyurethane followed by alkali treatment.Furthermore, the hygienic properties of direct spinning microfiber leather, such as softness, breathability, and relative tactile value, are enhanced. When the alkali mass fraction was 10%,the mechanical strength remained basically unchanged compared to the base fabric, while the softness increased by 71.7%,the breathability increased by 67%,and the relative tactile value was 17.1%.
