Interpretation of"Remuneration Incident"between the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce of the Republic of China and Shen Shou—Based on the Submissions and Approvals of Both Parties and Zhang Jian's Manuscript
In the first half of 1914,Shen Shou sought from the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce of the Republic of China to recover the arrears of remuneration for the embroiderers of"Alina"in Qing Dynesty.Based on the submissions and approvals of both parties in this"remuneration incident",as well as Zhang Jian's manuscript, the background and process of this incident are sorted out,and it is believed that Zhang Jian, then the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, did not obstruct Shen Shou's request for compensation, but due to various factors,Shen Shou failed to recover the arrears. It is also proposed that based on the social level, the"remuneration incident"has certain positive significance for promoting the Chinese people to reflect on traditional cultural values such as"valuing righteousness over profit".
