Research on installation and application of composite insulator shielding ring for 330 kV overhead transmission lines considering bird damage prevention
This study addresses the issue of increased insulation distance between the high and low ends of composite insulators in 330 kV overhead transmission lines due to the installation of shielding rings or grading shielding rings.A simulation model is built to analyze the surface electric field distribution and field strength variations under three condi-tions:no grading ring or shielding ring at the high voltage end,a grading ring and a circular shielding ring at the high voltage end,and only a triangular shielding ring at the high voltage end.The feasibility of removing the grading ring or shielding ring at the high-voltage end is also analyzed. The results show that the maximum field strengths at the high and low ends of the composite insulators are 26.72 kV/cm and 27.92 kV/cm,respectively.Based on these findings, recommendations for the installation, operation, and maintenance of shielding rings on 330 kV overhead transmission lines in different regions of Ningxia are proposed.
