Analysis of Environmental Changes in the Shiyang River Basin at Millennial Scale
The Shiyang River Basin represents an ideal area for studying human-environment interactions in the arid region of northwest China, where rivers are highly susceptible to environmental changes and human activi-ties.By re-analyzing the anthropogenic and natural data collected from the Shiyang River Basin since the Holo-cene,including independent anthropogenic records and palaeoenvironmental history records,we can conclude that the impacts of Holocene climate change and human activities on the Shiyang River Basin have been ana-lyzed based on a series of regional climate data, anthropogenic histories, palaeoclimate simulation results, and detailed environmental history information. The findings demonstrate that during the initial to intermediate Holocene period, the evolution of the Shiyang River was mainly influenced by regional climate fluctuations. However,in the late Holocene, with the advancement of social productivity, the impact of human activities gradually intensified, becoming a pivotal driver of environmental change within the Shiyang River Basin.
