Digital Economy and Urban-Rural Income Gap-----Empirical Test Based on the Perspective of Human Capital
The digital economy serves as a significant lever for promoting coordinated urban-rural development and fostering common prosperity. However, the impact of the digital economy on the urban-rural income gap has yet to be effectively evaluated.Based on provincial panel data from 2011 to 2020,this article measured the digital economy index using the entropy method and verified the aforementioned impact through fixed effects models and threshold effects models. The results showed that the development of the digital economy could significantly reduce the urban-rural income gap,and the effect of the digital economy in narrowing the urban-rural income gap exhibited a"U-shaped"characteristic,expanding at low levels of human capital and contracting at high levels of human capital. The article suggests that to achieve effective linkage between consolidating poverty alleviation achievements and rural revitalization,it is necessary not only to increase investment in digital infrastructure and promote the digitization and intelligent transformation of agriculture and related industries but also to coordinate urban-rural education resources, enhance the digital literacy and vocational skills of farmers, and cultivate a new type of rural labor force.
