Analysis of Menstrual Health Knowledge,Attitude,Practice and Educational Needs of Female Students in Ningxia Universities
Objective To understand the current situation of menstrual health knowledge,attitude,behavior and educational needs of female students in Ningxia colleges and universities,and to analyze the influencing factors,so as to provide a reference basis for menstrual health education and health care guidance in higher ed-ucation institutions in Ningxia.Methods A total of 2 703 female college students from three universities in Ningxia were selected by cluster random sampling method and investigated by anonymous questionnaire.Logis-tic regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of health knowledge,attitude,behavior and educational needs of female students during menstruation.Results 26.97%of the female college students in Ningxia understood menstrual knowledge very well,51.54%of the female college students agreed with the atti-tude of menstrual health care that was helpful to women's health,the rate of good menstrual behavior was 64.67%.The ordered Logistic regression analysis showed that students majoring in medicine(OR=0.364,95%CI:0.307-0.432,P<0.001)and age at menarche<12 years old(OR=0.565,95%CI:0.366-0.872,P=0.010)had better knowledge of menstrual health.Meanwhile,the outcome of unordered multicategorical Logistic regression analysis showed that female university students majoring in medicine(OR=1.975,95%CI:1.486-2.626,P<0.001)were more inclined to have a favorable attitude towards menstrual hygiene care as helpful for women's health.Additionally,the results of binary Logistic regression analysis showed that female university students majoring in medicine(OR=0.706,95%CI:0.597-0.835,P<0.001)and menstrual cycles of 23~≤35 days(OR=0.651,95%CI:0.440-0.962,P=0.031)had better student health behaviors.Conclusion There were deficiencies in the cog-nition of menstrual health among college female students in Ningxia,and the awareness of health care during menstrual period needs to be strengthened.The university should sufficiently consider the weak links when car-rying out relevant education and intervention,so as to effectively improve the health level of female college stu-dents in menstruation.
