Analysis of Differences and Influencing Factors between Postpartum Exclusive Breastfeeding Intention and Postpartum Breastfeeding Behavior
Objective To investigate the current status of exclusive breastfeeding on the 42 days after delivery and prenatal feeding intentions,and to explore the differences in intentions and behaviour and the factors that influence them.Methods A questionnaire survey was used to collect information from 616 mothers who were enrolled in two hospitals,Wuzhong Municipal People's Hospital and Yinchuan Maternal and Child Health Hospital,from 1 January 2023 to 31 July,and the influencing factors affecting the variability of maternal exclusive breastfeeding intention and postpartum behaviours were analyzed by applying the one-way χ2 analysis and the multifactorial Logistic regression.Results The rate of exclusive breastfeeding of parturients for 42 days was about 53.41%,and their prenatal intention to exclusively breastfeed was 86.04%;the variability between intention to exclusive breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding behaviour for 42 days was 36.53%.The results of multifactorial Logistic regression analysis showed that correct knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding and a positive attitude towards formula feeding were protective factors for the variability of maternal exclusive breastfeeding intentions and exclusive breastfeeding behaviour 42 days after delivery.Maternal age≥35 years and monthly income of RMB 3 001~≤8 000 were risk factors for the variability of maternal exclusive breastfeeding intention and exclusive breastfeeding behaviour 42 days after delivery(P all<0.05).Conclusion Mothers'willingness to exclusive breastfeeding before delivery is high,but the number of those who actually exclusive breastfeeding on the 42 days after delivery is low.Relevant personnel should emphasise the provision of timely and appropriate exclusive breastfeeding support measures for mothers at different stages of pregnancy and childbirth,so as to improve the success rate and duration of exclusive breastfeeding.
