A Meta-analysis of the effects of biochar on soil inorganic nitrogen content
To explore the effect of biochar on soil inorganic nitrogen(SIN)content in farmland,375 sets of data of 65 published literatures from 2013 to 2023 were employed to analyze the response of biochar application to soil inorganic nitrogen content by Meta analysis. The results showed that biochar significantly increased SIN content in the area with an average annual rainfall of 600-1 000 mm,and the increase was obvious when the rainfall was 957 mm.When annual average temperature was more than 8℃,the enhanced SIN was also noticed.Further the influences of biochar on SIN content were also regulated by soil texture. It was increased by 21.85% and 11.05% for sandy soil and loam, respectively. In field, less than 120 kg·hm-2 N application rate promoted SIN content;whereas for culture experiment, the increased SIN content was induced when N was not applied.Substantially, when biochar application rate was less than 0.5%,SIN was increased significanty by 17.70% under conditions of field. The duration of biochar application also modulated the effects of biochar on SIN.The enhanced influence of biochar on SIN was observed when biochar was applied more than one year.In summary, the factors average annual rainfall, annual temperature, soil textures, nitrogen application rate, and biochar application rate along with biochar returning years impact the influences of biochar on SIN.
