New implementation pathways for the resource utilization of agricultural wastes under the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality
Carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals are the significant strategy of China. As the primary industry, agriculture plays a crucial role in the realization process of the goals.Among the advancements towards these goal in the agricultural sector, the resource utilization of agricultural wastes is a vital aspect. This article expounds on several new resource utilization pathways beyond the traditional"five-material utilization"technology of agricultural waste, including the targeted conversion of agricultural wastes into value-added chemicals and liquid fuels, the production of biochar and other functionalized carbon materials from agricultural wastes, the preparation of combustible gases, and the development of biodegradable plastics based on agricultural wastes. It also briefly discusses the issues that need to be further addressed for the improvement of these new resource utilization pathways and how to achieve maximum carbon emission reduction during implementation, thus maximally contributing to the realization of the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality strategic goals in the agricultural sector.
