A review of subsurface drainage technology in Chinese farmland desalination
China possesses vast saline-alkali lands, with secondary salinization posing a significant challenge.Effective development and utilization of these resources can alleviate the national shortage of arable land and ensure food security.Subsurface drainage technology is a key method for improving saline-alkali lands, with its efficiency influenced by factors such as pipe materials, structures, envelope materials, and layout configurations. This paper reviews the current applications of subsurface drainage technology in China, highlighting advancements in pipe materials and structures, the design parameters of combined systems such as open ditch-subsurface drainage, and the integration of renewable energy sources like solar power.Existing issues, including pipe clogging,irrigation-drainage integration, and challenges in construction and maintenance, are also discussed.Future advancements in subsurface drainage technology for saline-alkali farmland are expected to focus on energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, intelligent systems, integrated management, and multi-source complementarities, providing valuable insights for related theoretical research and practical applications.
