Village Democracy and Effective Governance:How Does Collective Economic Strength Affect Villagers'Autonomy
The relationship between collective economic strength and the effect of villagers'autonomy essentially reflects the extent to which collective economic resources be transformed into rural governance efficiency.Based on the data of China Labor Force Dynamics Survey in 2018,this article uses multilevel regression model and instrumental variable method to investigate the influ-ence and constraint conditions of collective economic strength on villagers'autonomy from the process dimension of democratic autonomy and the outcome dimension of effective autonomy. The results show that:firstly, the strengthening of collective economic strength has a significant democ-racy enhancement effect, and the strengthening of interest association is conducive to improving the participation rate of villagers, especially the participation rate of the middle and low social classes.Secondly, the strengthening of collective economic strength does not necessarily promote effective autonomy. The governance efficiency of collective economy is moderated by the village so-cial correlation. In the villages with high social correlation, the mobilization function of collective economy in public affairs governance can be better played, and the collective action and effective village governance can be promoted.
