Does Retaining Agricultural Land Rights and Interests Have an Impact on the Consumption Structure of Nearby Urbanized Farming Households:An Empirical Analysis Based on CFPS Data
Upgrading the consumption structure is crucial in driving sustained and stable eco-nomic growth in the long term.Considering the urbanization trend, this paper focuses on families who opt for urbanization near their hometowns,we analyze the impact of agricultural land on the consumption structure of households engaging in nearby urbanization through instrumental variable method(Ⅳ).Utilizing a mixed cross-sectional dataset from the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)spanning from 2014 to 2020.The research findings indicate that retaining agricultural land contributes to optimizing the consumption structure of these households.Agricultural land has a significant promoting effect on the consumption of middle-aged and elderly households,higher-income,households in the central and eastern regions, households without liquidity constraints and households with high level of protection for agricultural land income rights.Uncertainty risk con-strains the role of agricultural land in enhancing household consumption structure. The research re-veals that facilitating the transfer of agricultural land and the income derived from such transfers significantly refines the consumption structure of households in nearby urbanization. Therefore, safeguarding household land rights, fostering regional development, establishing robust social secu-rity systems, and creating equitable and efficient agricultural land transfer markets can empower nearby urbanizing families to consume confidently and willingly.
