How Do Natural Disasters Affect Farmers'Human Capital Investment
Reducing the adverse impact of natural disasters on farmers'human capital invest-ment is an important aspect of long-term increasing farmers'income and promoting rural revital-ization.Using the data of China Labor Force Dynamic Survey(CLDS),this paper discusses the im-pact of natural disasters on farmers'human capital investment and its action path. The study found that natural disasters have short-term negative and long-term positive effects on farmers'human capital investment. The analysis of action path shows that the income of farmers'households is the basic path for natural disasters to affect the human capital investment of farmers. After the disaster, government subsidies significantly alleviate the pressure on household income and then reduce the pressure on farmers'human capital investment. The occurrence of natural disasters en-hances parents'awareness of education investment and thus improves farmers'human capital in-vestment level. The heterogeneity analysis shows that natural disasters mainly inhibit the human capital investment of farmers with agricultural income and farmers in the central and western re-gions,and promote the human capital investment of non poor farmers, farmers without agricultural income and farmers in the eastern region.
