The modernization of farmers is the foundation of agricultural and rural moderniza-tion.Based on the theory of participation and return, this article constructs an analytical framework of"organization benefit concept"to discuss the interest driven mechanism of cooperatives in rural areas that affects the modernization of farmers'concepts.Theoretical analysis shows that in order to promote the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, farmers'agricultural production con-cepts,social collective concepts, and democratic autonomy concepts need to undergo modernization transformation. The main constraints are small-scale production,hollowing-out rural areas, and administrative governance. However, the construction of a new rural interest community based on cooperatives can effectively break through the factors that restrict the modernization of con-cepts.Empirical research has found that,(1)cooperatives contribute to the modernization of farm-ers'concepts,and their economic benefits are the fundamental driving force.(2)Cooperatives in-duce farmers'interests by promoting modernization of the concepts of agricultural and non agricul-tural populations through agricultural income and collective dividends.(3)Cooperatives that receive funding from the government, enjoy socialized agricultural services, and implement inte-grated"production+sales"operations have better economic benefits and a stronger role in promo-ting modernization of farmers'concepts. The conclusion of this article indicates that the economic value of cooperatives is the foundation of their social value.Continuously improving the benefit mechanism allocated according to production factors, increasing financial support and strengthening agricultural socialized services, and developing cooperatives with complete functions and long industrial chains are effective measures to enhance the dual value of cooperatives in agri-cultural and rural modernization.
