Women Hold Up Half the Sky:Agricultural Machinery Outsourcing Services and the Family Status of Rural Women
Improving the family status of rural women is an important topic in the study of women's development. In traditional agriculture, extensive application of ploughing technology has always been considered as the main reason why men gain dominant family status. From the per-spective of agricultural technology progress, this paper investigates the influence of agricultural ma-chinery outsourcing service on rural women's family status. It is found that agricultural machinery outsourcing service has improved the family status of rural women, which is manifested in improving the decision-making power of agricultural management, family expenditure and financial management. The mechanism analysis shows that agricultural machinery outsourcing service can promote women's family status by promoting men's migration and promoting women's participa-tion in non-agricultural employment. In addition, the promotion of agricultural machinery outsourc-ing service to women's family status is more obvious in flat terrain areas and families who do not buy agricultural machinery themselves. This paper provides a new perspective from the progress of agricultural technology to explain the change of rural women's family status, and also provides new evidence for supporting the policy of developing agricultural machinery outsourcing services.
