Crack defects are identified in the circumferential welds between the condenser shell and the equipment flange at the top of EO purification column of EO plant in a company.By analyzing the process flow characteristics of EO purification unit and the characteristic parameters of condenser,from the operating time of the equipment,location and shape characteristics of crack defects,it is concluded that the main rea-sons for crack defects are inadequate carbon steel side protection in the process of pickling and passivation and the existence of anisotropy and weld stress in the welding between dissimilar steel materials.Based on the installation space conditions of on-site repair,this paper provides the steps and precautions for repairing the crack defects.After implementation,the weld crack defects on the condenser at the top of EO purifica-tion column are resolved effectively.
