The cowpea is an important vegetable in China,serving as primary source for farmers to increase their income.However,the improper use of chemical pesticides and the frequent occur-rence and recurrence of cowpea diseases and pests have resulted in issues such as high pesticide re-sistance in pests and high pesticide residues in crops.In this study,we provide an overview of the major pests and diseases affecting cowpea crops in China.We also summarize the pesticides regis-tered for cowpeas use,identifying their deficiencies,and discuss the directions for future improve-ments.This review aims to facilitate the registration of pesticides used to control cowpea pests and provide new insights to aid the management of pesticide residues in cowpea crops.
